J’ avais pensé à installer Wireshark, et émuler une interface graphique avec Putty.
Putty n’émule pas d’interface graphique. Comme ssh, il permet simplement d’utiliser le serveur X du poste client SSH comme affichage déporté pour les applications du serveur SSH.

J’ ai posté en même temps mon problème sur le forum phpbb. On m’ a dit qu’ il fallait que je configure mon serveur de façon a ce qu’ il puisse envoyer des mails. Je n’ ai pas installer de serveur smtp, et apparament phpbb n’ en a pas besoin, lorsque l’ on utilise sa fonction mail.
Mais que dois je faire pour que le serveur puisse envoyer des mails sans installer un serveur smtp ?
Mon erreur vient peut etre de là, avant de lancer Wireshark j’ aimerais bien savoir, mais je ne vois pas comment.

Lorsque tu fais un appel à mail, il s’adresse au serveur SMTP indiqué dans ton fichier /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini, en général c’est localhost mais si tu as vu des mails partir, c’est que ça doit être bien paramétré. Vérifie.

Les seules fois ou les mails de notifications sont partis de phpbb sur mon serveur, c’ était en passant par le smtp de mon Fai, j’ ai agit sur la console de phpbb, je n’ ai rien touché à /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini
J’ ai regardé, je n’ ai rien qui fait référence à un serveur smtp sur ce fichier… Je jetterai un oeil encore ce soir, je suis actuellement avec Putty sur Windows je ne peux pas te faire un copier - coller de ce fichier, je rebooterai sur un live cd de Backtrack tout à l’ heure en rentrant.
Je viens de regarder sous Wamp, j’ ai bien cette rubrique, avec localhost d’ indiqué :

Mais j’ en reviens à la même manip que je fais depuis la console phpbb, quand je choisis de ne pas utiliser la fonction mail mais un serveur smtp.
Donc si mes mails ne sortent pas depuis le début, c’ est que mon serveur smtp n’ est pas configuré ? La fonction mail de phpbb a elle seule n’ est pas suffisante ?
Je ne comprends pas bien ta question, la fonction mail de php n’est là que pour dialoguer avec un serveur smtp. Tu peux éventuellement te taper de déterminer le serveur MX d’un domaine donné et indiquer un mail d’utiliser ce serveur mais le plus simple reste de lui donner le serveur chargé de faire ce travail (celui du FAI ou le serveur local). Par défaut, sur un serveur Web, il y a un SMTP fonctionnel ne serait ce que pour les mails systèmes d’où la configuration par défaut de PHP.

Ok, je commence à y voir plus clair, merci pour tes explications.
Pas évident pour moi, dans me tête je pensais qu’ un serveur smtp n’ était pas nécessaire (et pour ma défense tel que c’ est marqué dans le panneau de configuration de phpbb c’ est litigieux. De plus, le script servant à tester la fonction mail m’ indiquait que tout allait bien chez moi) .
Donc grâce à tout le monde ici j’ ai quand même bien avancé, je peux maintenant passer par un smtp externe, reste à faire en sorte que je puisse le faire avec celui présent sur mon serveur, apparament il manque donc quelque chose.
Vu que maintenant les mails peuvent sortir, je considère ce post comme résolu, si j’ ai des difficultés avec exim4 j’ ouvirai un autre post, histoire que cela soit plus facile à suivre.
