Et bien bonjour à tous
j’ai fait le grand saut d’une ubuntu 5.10 à Lenny à l’occasion de la reception de mon Vostro1700.

  • Je suis passé par le driver NVidia (et non pas par la procédure debian) pour ma carte 8600MGT

  • J’ai eu quelques souci avec le son :

Je suis en 2.6.22-4 de debian, avec nvidia et ipw3945 compilés à la mode debian qui fonctionnent nickel.
Pour info, les sources de kernel.org ne sont pas patchées avec les patchs spécifiques debian qui leur permettent de bien fonctionner sous debian, et le pilote nvidia trouvé sur le site supprime des choses en s’installant et gène le bon fonctionnement d’apt sur certaines mises à jour. il ne faut donc utiliser ni l’un ni l’autre si on veut fonctionner longtemps avec des mises à jour régulières.

c’est probablement ce que je vais faire sous peu. Le Vostro est tout neuf et avant de l’utiliser en production, je comptais expérimenter un peu tout azimut sans risquer quoi que ce soit point de vue ‘taf’.

Au fait as tu le même type de config que moi? Je me pose actuellement pas mal de questions (pardon si c’est questions ont été déjà traitées) Est ce que le kernel 2.6.22-4 a réglé le probleme avec le driver nvidia et le son (cela ne me semble pas évident sans passage à alsa 1.0.15 ou compilation en dur du driver, je me trompe?)? La nvidia 8600MGT est compatible avec une compil “à la debian” des drivers du dépots (je n’ai que les legacy 1.0.7185 et le kernel common de 2005), j’ai installé la version NVIDIA-linux-X86.100.14.19 ? Est ce qu’il sera possible d’activer le suspend si je n’utilise pas cette dernière version?

Installer les sources kernel.org et le nvidia du site, c’est plutot ça qui relève de l’experimentation sous debian.
Pour ce qui est des similarités entre nos configs, je crois qu’elles sont fortuites: je suis sur un acer 9423WSMi, et il y a des extensions Dell que je n’ai pas.
Pour ta 8600, elle est supportée, mais il faudra prendre le pilote sid.
Celà ne nécessite pas une install en sid, mais pour un usage laptop, la sid est plutot bien: elle n’a d’unstable que le nom, et les petites douleurs que ça provoque n’ont rien de comparable avec les grosses baffe qu’on se prend sur une famille d’OS que je ne nommerais pas, et sont largement compensées par une panoplie de fonctionnalités pour portable disponibles uniquement en sid (detection pnp ameliorée).
Pour le nvidia, comme l’ipw3945, je dois dire que les dernières mises à jour ne se sont pas faites forcément toute seules, mais à force on y arrive.
Sur un Dell, le suspend doit être plus normalisé que sur d’autres archis, mais je ne parierais rien.
Ah oui: je suis bien sûr en 64bits.

j’ai pas encore trouvé, non. hier soir après avoir mis sur un forum l’annonce de vente de mon zen micro par pieces et ses accesoires j’ai essaié a nouveau s’il marche. pendant quelques heures j’ai cru qu’il marchait!!!

J’en reviens à mon V43, ses 128Mo de ram, de son DD de 30Go, de ses formats de lecture (mp3, ogg, wma, wmv, divx, …) et de la bidouille qu’il est possible de faire (attention mode geek)

En plus, avec le portage de X11, il devient possible de le piloter à la souris et au clavier et d’utiliser les applications de la debian sarge mipsel… (la seule limitation embêtante c’est la taille de l’écran (480x272)). j’ai testé d’abord antiword puis matchbox, endeavour2, gqview et xvkbd… ça marche, j’ai pas testé en profondeur mais les premiers tests laissent à penser que cela devrait être assez simple en terme de portage …

(je ne suis pas actionnaire de digital cube, juste impressionné par les possibilités du bidules et désapointé par la confidentialité qui l’entoure en France (en fait il faudrait plutôt dire dans tout le monde sauf en Corée du Sud))

C’est sûr un DD c’est fragile… mais cela se change.
Je me suis acheté un toshiba de 20go pour faire mes tests. Je l’ai formaté à l’image du DD d’origine, ouvert le bidule et … ça marche (merci Philou du tuyau). Bon d’accord la garantie n’est plus. Mais entre nous j’avais eu un souci au début et renvoyé en Corée parce qu’il était sous garantie et franchement j’ai attendu 4 mois pour le revoir… Alors la garantie… :confused:
